Building for an Empty World
It has been several months since I released the demo for The Last Broadcast and in that time I have been hard at work expanding that groundwork. I want to take some time in this post and show off both new level-design progress and some new UI changes. From the beginning, I had a clear vision of what kind of world I wanted to create for TLB, and from those designs I have attempted to craft spaces that capture the mystery of older, classic horror games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill while still leaning into the uniqueness of this world. However, I have quickly come to the realization that most creators have reached when designing exploration-based games: level design is really difficult. It is a skill unto itself and as such is incredibly easy to get wrong
Both of these showcase new areas still in development, the Apartments and the Maintenance Tunnels. The goal of these designs is to make the player feel small and isolated, completely alone in these alien spaces. Going forward, I am looking to showcase more of the levels as progression and designs are finalized. And we haven't even begun to look at the things lurking in the shadows... stay tuned!
